  • Low Dose Naltrexone - LDN | Rejuvenate Medi-Spa Capitola, CA 95010

Low Dose Naltrexone or LDN What is Naltrexone? Most commonly, Naltrexone is an opiate antagonist (blocker) that is given intravenously or intra-muscularly in emergency situations to reverse opioid overdoses. It is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of addictions to opioids and alcohol. What is Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN)? This is the use of an oral formulation at 1/10th the dose of rescue Naltrexone. Generally, we start out at 1.5mg and can go up to 4.5mg daily. This is taken at night as it has some sedative effects and can help with sleep. It has been used by Functional Medicine providers for years safely as an off-label usage, meaning that is has not been approved by the FDA for specific conditions, but is generally accepted as safe. Summary of Action The summary of 10 years of research into LDN shows that: Naltrexone is an antagonist for the option/endorphin receptors this causes increased endorphin release Increased endorphins modulate the immune response this reduces the speed of unwanted cells growing Suppresses cytokine modulated immune system Antagonizes TLR mediated production of NF-kB Reduces inflammation Potentially down-regulates oncogenes Functional Medicine Uses of LDN Here at Rejuvenate, we focus on autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis (MS), Psoriasis, Crohn’s Disease and Rheumatoid Arthritis. Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN) has been demonstrated to reduce symptom severity in conditions such as fibromyalgia, Crohn’s disease, multiple sclerosis, psoriasis and complex regional pain syndrome. There is growing evidence that LDN may operate as a novel anti-inflammatory agent in the central nervous system, via action on microglial cells. These effects may be unique to low dosages of naltrexone and appear to be entirely independent from naltrexone’s better-known activity on opioid receptors. As a daily oral therapy, LDN is inexpensive and well-tolerated. There is great promise of efficacy and studies on the use of LDN for chronic disorders are ongoing. Published trials have low sample sizes, and few replications have been performed. LDN has been used in Functional Medicine for many years and there have been great results when used in combination with elimination diets and appropriate supplementation. LDN Treatment Protocol LDN Starting Dosage 1.5mg, 1 capsule at bedtime for 3 to 7 days If tolerated, then proceed to 2 capsules at bedtime for 3 to 7 days If tolerated, then proceed to 3 capsules at bedtime LDN Maintenance Dosage is 4.5mg daily . Side Effects LDN has virtually no side effects. Occasionally, during the first week’s use of LDN, patients may complain of some difficulty sleeping, strange dreams or morning fatigue. This rarely persists after the first week. Should it do so, dosage can be reduced from 4.5mg to 3mg nightly Cautionary Warnings Because LDN blocks opioid receptors throughout the body for three or four hours, people using opioid medications, i.e. narcotics such as Ultram (tramadol), morphine, Percocet (oxycodone), Vicodin (hydrocodone) Duragesic (fentanyl) patch or any codeine-containing medication should not take LDN until such medicine is completely out of one’s system. Patients who have become dependent on daily use of narcotic-containing pain medication may require 10 days to 2 weeks of slowly weaning off of such drugs entirely before being able to begin LDN safely.

  • Capitola Stem Cell & Exosome Therapy | Rejuvenate Medi-Spa

What is Stem Cell Therapy? Are you tired of hearing... “You’ve got bone on bone, there’s nothing that can be done.” “Surgery is your only option from here.” “We just don’t know what else to do for you.” “There’s a new medication that might help.” “Knee replacements work really well, why not just get it done? “We can inject steroids for inflammation” When injected into the site of an injury, mesenchymal stem cells have the amazing ability to reduce inflammation, induce our body’s own stem cells to repair damaged tissue and in some cases actually turn into the tissues that have been damaged or lost. Stem cell therapy can be used to treat... Muscle, ligament and tendon injuries Arthritis of the knee, hip and shoulders Back pain, degenerative disc disease Rotator cuff issues, golfers and tennis elbow Medical conditions such as COPD, asthma, tremors and MS What's in the stem cell shot? Mesenchymal Stem Cells Mesenchymal stem cells can reduce inflammation, instigate our body to repair damaged tissues and sometimes replace damaged or lost tissues. Mesenchymal stem cells are taken from the placentas of healthy newborn babies who, along with their parents, have been tested and cleared for infectious diseases and genetic abnormalities. Because they are biologically younger, they don’t react with your own tissue and are more robust in their response to injuries Cytokines and Growth Factors Cytokines are signals that tell the stem cells and growth factors what to do and what to become. Growth factors include collagen, a key building block for joints and connective tissues, amino acids to help build proteins, and other growth factors that stimulate tissue development. Regenerative Therapy Regenerative therapy is healing non-functioning cells in a process of replacing and renewing human cells and tissues for the purpose of restoring your optimal body function. This may include the use of stem cells in a medically appropriate and individualized manner. The human body utilizes a variety of chemical reactions and cells to begin the healing process. Dr. Jay prefers regenerative therapeutics that deliver an additional boost of interconnected systems including cellular scaffolds, growth factors, cytokines and specialty molecules to help recover, rebuild and renew. The table below shows the variety of stem cell products available. Advantages of umbilical cord tissue and amniotic fluid treatment: Supplement and replace damaged or inadequate connective tissue and cells utilizing regenerative molecules. Modulates and reduces the inflammation of the injured area with anti-inflammatory cytokines. Incorporates with the damaged tissue at the site of injury without rejection due to immunosuppressive properties. Provides a complete range of natural cellular scaffolding and growth factors to promote the regenerative process. Does not require invasive procedures like bone marrow aspiration, or adipose tissue extraction, resulting in shorter procedure time and faster recovery with less pain.

Rejuvenate Medi-Spa offers a superior alternative to these traditional PRP treatments that uses stem cell derived products instead of blood extracted from the client. These products contain a higher concentration of the proteins necessary for intercellular communication and regrowth of damaged tissue. They also contain a combination of collagen and elastin to help the skin regain its youthful appearance. We also use this fluid mixed with Hyaluronic Acid to supplement Micro-Needling for a groundbreaking aesthetic treatment, which can be performed at our comfortable Capitola spa location!

  • IV FAQ | Rejuvenate Medi-Spa & Wellness | Capitola, CA

Frequently Asked Questions Are there any side effects during the IV process? No major side effects are usually seen; however, people do experience some cooling of the arm and a mineral taste in the mouth. Do not worry, as this is all normal. How long does a session take? Our nutrient IV’s take approximately 30-45 minutes for the drip to be fully administered. What are nutrient IVs made of? Nutrient IVs are similar to IV’s you would find at your local hospital. They all consist of vitamins, minerals, and amino acids, which are found in the body naturally. Adding these nutrients gives the body more of what your organs need to function properly. How frequently should I do IV Therapy? None of our IV’s contain toxins that are found in medicine or pharmaceuticals, so no one experiences an overdose of any kind. If you are healthy, theoretically it is safe for daily use. Realistically, most people do not put such high demands on their bodies where they would need daily nutrient IV Therapy. Our most frequent dosage is a bi-weekly program. But you should tailor your IV Therapy to your lifestyle. How soon should I feel the effects? Depending on your nutritional and hydration status you may see dramatic effects after the first IV. People who get IV’s regularly will feel less dramatic effects as their body starts to obtain optimal hydration and nutritional balance. Is this process painful? Everyone’s pain tolerance is different. While some people find needles to be relatively painless, others will find it a bit painful. For these patients, we have ways of making the process more comfortable. However, this procedure is in no way excruciating. We use a smaller needle than what is used in children's hospitals. Who should or shouldn't do this? If you retain fluids, have kidney problems, or suffer from certain health conditions, you should not engage in nutrient IV Therapy. We always recommend that you check with your primary care physician if you’re unsure. However, anyone with a healthy history can safely obtain its benefits. Is there any potential reaction to receiving a nutrient IV while on other medications? Negative reactions are slim to none, since this procedure is proven to be advantageous and safe. Either way, everyone is monitored and if some discomfort begins, we will simply monitor you over time and stop if necessary. Most people respond favorably to the therapy, feeling energized and alert from the beginning. Is it an expensive treatment? IV Therapy is a premium service that improves your body’s performance enormously. It is an investment, so if you compare the price against the benefits you receive from it, you’ll find it’s worth it. Users agree that preventative medicine such as nutrient IV Therapy strengthens their immune system, helping them avoid expensive doctor visits and prescription medication that come from something like a severe cold or allergy. What should I do after the treatment is done? After your session, you can go about your day as you would normally. There are no restrictions. We recommend that you exercise, meditate, eat healthy meals, stay hydrated, and get enough rest daily. Where does the treatment take place? This treatment can be performed at one of our comfortable Santa Cruz spa locations!

  • MicroNeedling | Santa Cruz, CA | Rejuvenate Medi-Spa

Microneedling P.I.N. (Percutaneous Induction Needling) is a method of introducing a controlled wound into the skin triggering a release of natural growth factors, new collagen & elastin. This process causes much less damage to the epidermis than dermal rolling or lasers and other ablative treatments, which helps to protect the new skin cell growth providing for quicker healing, higher success rates and longer lasting results. What is automated micro-needling? Automated Micro-Needling (also known as Percutaneous Collagen Induction Therapy or PCIT) is a new innovation in aesthetic medicine for the treatment of fine lines, acne scars and improvement of the skin’s appearance. During this procedure, tiny needles are used to create controlled micro-injuries to the skin in order to produce collagen and elastin. The skin’s repair process results in a thicker dermis with the appearance of softer wrinkles. Automated micro-needling also creates superficial micro-channels, which allow topical serums and creams to be absorbed more effectively into the skin. Collagen P.I.N. is the most advanced medical-grade automated micro-needling device on the market. How is Collagen P.I.N different from dermal needling rollers of the past? Micro-needling rollers are the previous generation of needling devices. One of the many drawbacks of dermal rollers is the fixed needle or penetration depth (i.e. 0.5mm) which is not very conducive when treating an area like the face which requires different depths due to the varying thickness of skin tissue, depending on the area(s) being treated. Therefore, having a fixed needle depth or penetration level is a huge drawback when trying to customize a treatment for consistency. Collagen P.I.N. ™ has an adjustable needle depth that allows your skincare provider to adjust penetration depth throughout the entire treatment. This will allow the medical provider to properly address the specific needs of thinner skin on your lower eyelids, crow’s feet, and forehead. Additionally, where the tissue is thicker in other areas, like the upper lip, cheeks (due to fat pads), neck and décolletage, the necessary adjustments can easily be treated with 1 needle tip instead of 5 or 6 needle rollers. The other dramatic difference is in the type of injury that occurs using the Collagen P.I.N. versus a Dermal Needling Roller. How is Collagen PIN different from lasers? When used correctly resurfacing lasers can be a great tool for treating aging skin. However, lasers use focused light to produce heat to destroy certain colors of pigmentation and vaporizes skin. This is great for targeting dark spots but often leads to complications when treating patients with naturally darker skin. Collagen P.I.N. ™ breaks up pigment mechanically and remodels the collagen without heat or the light. When the heat is removed from the process, it makes for a much safer, more comfortable and more consistent treatment. No heat also equals less downtime! Most Collagen P.I.N. ™ patients have a healthy pink glow immediately after the procedure, which lessens dramatically within 24 hours or less. Most patients are back to work the same day and out to dinner the same evening and experience little to no downtime. How is the procedure done? A sterile needle-tip containing 12 to 36 tiny micro-needles is attached to the Collagen P.I.N. ™. Your skincare professional will apply a thin layer of topical serum to your skin and select the appropriate treatment depth based on your unique needs. Next, in a single motion, the Collagen P.I.N. will be gently glided across the skin in one direction until the entire treatment area has been covered. This results in thousands of microscopic channels throughout the entire treatment area. This treatment can be performed at one of our comfortable Santa Cruz spa locations! Who can be treated with Collagen P.I.N., and on what areas of the body? Collagen P.I.N. can be used on all skin types to address a variety of concerns, most all areas of the body can be treated unless your medical provider determines otherwise. Face Arms Neck Legs Décolletage Abdomen Hands Back How many Collagen P.I.N. treatments will I need? Typically a series of 3-6 Collagen P.I.N. treatments is recommended, depending upon your area of correction or concern. Your skincare professional will ultimately determine a treatment schedule based on your individual goals and desires. Treatments are usually spaced in 4 week intervals. Patients with deep wrinkles, advanced sun damage, stretch marks, or any type of scars, usually require 6 or more treatments to achieve the desired results. What is the method of application for Collagen P.I.N.? A sterile disposable needle cartridge, holding either 12 or 36 micro-needles is glided across the skin with the Collagen P.I.N. device that mechanically induces a micro injury to the desired depth chosen for your skin by your medical provider. The Collagen P.I.N. creates micro channels which allows topicals and serums to reach the true targeted areas, producing a much more efficacious result. Will the Collagen P.I.N. procedure hurt? Prior to your treatment with the Collagen P.I.N., the medical provider will apply a topical numbing agent. Most people say they feel almost nothing after having been pretreated with a topical numbing agent. How long will it take for me to see results from my Collagen P.I.N. treatment? Most all patients see results after the first Collagen P.I.N. treatment. Individual results vary depending on individual skin health. It is most common to begin to see true changes or positive results as soon as 1-2 weeks after the first treatment. Many patients comment on positive changes in even less time. Often, change is noted within just a few days! How long will my Collagen P.I.N. results last? Collagen P.I.N. produces results through the stimulation of growth factors and collagen, thereby promoting new skin cells to surface. As our skin ages, our collagen production naturally slows down. Your overall result will last longer when using an at home skin care regimen that includes a daily Retinoid product. Your medical provider is best suited to make this recommendation. New collagen & elastin formation in the skin are documented as visually and measurably improved as much as one year after just one treatment. However, a series of treatments is typically recommended for best results. What will I look like after my Collagen P.I.N. treatment? Collagen P.I.N. is considered a no downtime treatment. Immediately after your treatment your skin will look slightly pink to moderately red. Your medical provider will recommend skin care products for your post care based on your individual skin, which will greatly minimize these symptoms and enhance your overall results. Can I use makeup after having my Collagen P.I.N. treatment? Directly after your treatment we recommend using only mineral based foundation, as it cannot build bacteria. You may go back to your regular foundation 4 days post treatment.
